Why You Still Feel Stuck and Triggered: How Nervous System Dysregulation Keeps You From Healing

  • Try to fix it

  • Try to think their way out of it

  • Try to avoid it

These aren’t bad habits. They’re protective responses.

But they all come from the mind.

And healing doesn’t start there.


Why You Still Feel Triggered (Even When You Know Better)

You can understand your trauma logically and still feel anxious.

Why?

Because your body doesn’t respond to logic.
It responds to safety.

So when you try to fix, analyze, or avoid the feeling, your nervous system stays activated.

That tight chest, that knot in your stomach, that heavy feeling…

That’s your body holding onto something it hasn’t processed yet.

👉 Healing doesn’t happen in the mind first. It happens in the body.

A Simple Nervous System Reset Exercise

Next time you feel triggered, try this:

1. Notice it“Oh… I’m trying to fix this.”

2. Get curious“What am I feeling right now?”

3. Go to the body“Where do I feel this?” (chest, stomach, throat, etc.)

4. Stay with it (10-30 seconds)Breathe in… breathe out.No fixing. No forcing.

Why Breath Work Helps You Heal

Breath brings you back to yourself.

Breath:

  • Regulates your nervous system

  • Signals safety to your body

  • Helps release stored emotional energy

Stop Healing From Your Head
